The Sports Academy represents a variety of student athletes through sport specific training but more specifically USAV Junior Olympic Volleyball (JO) programs. Established in 1985, we are the very first in the area attracting athletes within a 60 miles radius. With over 25 years of experience training athletes on and off the court, we remain one of the oldest JO clubs in NC.
Our philosophy is to provide volleyball opportunities for all skills levels, not just the best of the best. Sports Academy fields elite and advanced level teams including the 2011 18 Gold Runner Up, 2010 Carolina Region Champions Thunder Storm 16 Platinum and Ice Storm 18 Gold. However, we pride ourselves on competition opportunities for all levels and field Bronze Copper and Nickel level teams as well as skills development for 8-14 yr olds. To date, we have successfully been able to place an estimated 99% of athletes on competition level teams in the Carolina Region.
Sports Academy has combined high school and JO coaching experience along with high school, USAV and NCAA officiating experience. As active members of the Carolina Region USAV, we bring JO tournaments to Iredell Co and provide leadership on various committees. We also promote higher levels of volleyball for all ages through mentoring youth leagues, a variety of training programs which include summer camps ages 8-15 and advanced camps with some of the best college coaches (Duke, Elon, USA National High Performance coaches) in NC all right here at home.
We strive to offer a rewarding experience for all skill levels, beginner, intermediate, advanced and elite levels where our goal is to help every athlete pursue their goals. We offer programs for both girls and boys 3rd-12th grades which include non competition skills training, local regional, national level travel teams and performance training. Our staff and athletes are recognized both on and off the court. We are committed to education, our community (raising over $18000 in 2010) and teaching life long social skills necessary to succeed in life as healthy teenagers and adults; teamwork, drive, respect, commitment, leadership, responsibility and sportsmanship.

We are also committed to promoting community service and life long social skills necessary to succeed in life as healthy teenagers and adults; teamwork, drive, respect, commitment, leadership, responsibility and sportsmanship. We are strong supporters of the Iredell County Youth Athletic Association and Boys and Girls Club of the Piedmont. We are also committed to fighting childhood hunger in Iredell County, the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, cancer research at the Levin and Brenner’s Children’s Hospitals.
Beginning our season in 2009, Sports Academy Athletes hosted a Christmas party for students and Annual Winter Formal at he Boy and Girls Club of the Piedmont. Our families raised over $18000 in cash, gifts and donations that were distributed to students as well as funded a trip for students to the NC Zoo this past summer.
In 2008, Sports Academy athletes raised an estimated $8000 in donations (two 54' trucks) to benefit area families who lost their homes to fire.

In this athletic arena, we are committed to both individual and team success by promoting healthy lifestyles through nutrition, sport specific plyometrics (jump), speed, strength training and positive attitudes and personal motivation. Athletes who participated in this program saw increases in their vertical leap of more than 2" in less than 60 days and increased speeds on 10 and 50 yard sprints.
